Excerpt from Edinburgh Jazz Festival blurb:-
The British jazz scene boasts many accomplished musicians but how many real stars does it have? People who can walk onto a stage and immediately fill it with their presence? Star quality is a famously indefinable thing but there is no doubt that the Milestones show at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival has delivered an artist with more than his fair share of the rare stuff. Enter Mr Freddie King, who not only sang the songs but who conceived, designed and produced the whole show. The concept of Milestones is essentially a dazzling trip through Freddie's musical and personal history beginning with his father's record collection (Nat Cole and Eddie Jefferson) and working through the landmarks of bebop, scat and vocalese as well as paying tribute to the character forming experiences Freddie lived through as a member of, yes indeed, the French commandos ('It'll make a man of you, son' - as Freddie’s Guinean dad put it).
Freddie brings his intimate trio to the festival with special guest Rick Taylor on trombone.
Don't miss a chance to see one the best vocalists in Scotland do his stuff.
